Live Your Story

“ONE OF THE MOST ATTRACTIVE PERIOD HOUSES IN CHICAGO TODAY, AN OLD MANSION THAT TO AN UNUSUAL DEGREE RETAINS, BOTH INSIDE AND OUT, ALL THE DECORATIVE CHARM OF THE VICTORIAN ERA.”

The Oliver was named after Oliver B. Green, a mover and a shaker, a man about town in the late 1800s and early 1900s. He built his family’s red brick Victorian mansion across the street from our Old Town apartments, and it was known for many decades as one of the most beautiful houses in the neighborhood.

“A family that goes back to the beginning of Chicago.”

In 1873, Oliver B Green was one of the city’s leading citizens. He was a harbor builder and supervised improvements of the Chicago River and the lakefront, which both remain the heart of Chicago today. It’s believed that his daughter—Mary Pome- roy Green, a well-traveled socialite—lived in the mansion when our apartment building was built in 1928, a time when Chicago put the roar in the roaring twenties.
